The Ideal Diet for Working Dogs

Working dogs are often at your side, putting in the long, hard days on-farm. Their reward? To be fed at the end of the day.

Your most loyal labour units need a dog food that gives them the energy and endurance to complete whatever task you ask of them. Nutrition that promotes muscle building and repair for a faster recovery.

Whether you’re feeding Huntaways or Heading dogs, STAMINA has been scientifically developed to provide the ideal working dog diet.

Medallion has worked with New Zealand animal scientists to research and specifically formulate dog nutrition for New Zealand working farm dogs. The research found that working dogs in NZ need a high-fat, high-protein, low carbohydrate dog food for optimum performance. STAMINA has been formulated to provide exactly that.

Benefits of High Fat

*Fat adaptation refers to a state whereby the dog on a high-fat, high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet has the ability to convert fat into energy. When a dog is fat-adapted, they do not need a steady stream of carbohydrates (glucose) for energy, instead they tap into fat for a more abundant energy supply. Fat adaptation also results in increased energy levels.

Dogs get 2.5 times more energy from fat than from carbohydrates or protein and metabolise 90-95% of the fat they are fed. Dogs are built to use fat-for-fuel with a short digestive tract and the ability to metabolise fat efficiently.
